Torre del Moro is a five-residence building spanning N Gower Street and Helios Drive, built in 1933 to a design by Marie Russak Hotchener — an opera singer who taught herself architecture and became one of the very few women practising it in Los Angeles at the time. She also designed Moorcrest nearby in the same canyon, and the street the building fronts shares her chosen name, Helios. The building rises three stories.
Three storeys hold five residences, restored and converted to condominiums in 2005. A secure gated entrance opens onto a curving mosaic-tiled staircase, and each residence has its own private outdoor space, its own entrance and its own parking. Interiors keep the original dark hardwood floors, casement windows and handmade wrought-iron balconies, with French doors, Carrara marble kitchen counters, custom cabinetry, high-end European appliances and central heat and air added in the restoration. One-bedroom plans run roughly 617 to 791 square feet and two-bedroom plans roughly 830 to 1,355.
Beachwood Village and Franklin Village are minutes away, with Los Feliz, Hollywood and the Cahuenga Pass close by.
